Mechanical
Mechanical
Members of this specialization take part in the mechanical design and fabrication of the robot. This involves working with engineers and machinists, while designing with CAD software, Autodesk Inventor, fabricating the robot parts such as the drive train, chassis, and object manipulators, as well as the assembling and maintaining the robot at competitions.
Electrical
Electrical
The Electrical division takes part in the software design and sensor implementation on the robot to make the "brains" of the robot. This involves integrating various sensory components include digital shaft encoders, mechanical limit switches, optical sensors, and potentiometers as well as wiring the robot. Then they
program the robot autonomous code and operational functions using the programming language, C.
Media
Media
Each year the Media division creates a 30-second 3D animation, using 3D Studio Max (The same program used by Blizzard and Sega), to compete in the same competitions as the rest of the team. Anybody interested in the movie making process is encouraged to join also, as we create a storyboard and write/compose our own background music. The Media division also uses computer software like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to make vector graphics, animation textures and scenery, as well as flyers, posters, professionally printed banners, and team t-shirts and polo designs. The team also creates team souvenirs like buttons and other articles that can be used to promote our team and sponsors.
Finance
Finance
Raising over $17,500 each year, the Finance division is the fundamental core of fundraisings for the team. Members secure multi-thousand
dollar grants, communicate with large firms, and deal with the business world. Members learn
essential communication, writing, business, and accounting skills. This group is crucial to all
robotics activities for it is responsible for all the income to run our program.
Public Relations
Public Relations
The main goal of Public Relations is to tie MVRT to the community through community services, demonstrations, and presentations at the Tech Museum and Kennedy as well as other events. Other responsibilities of PR are keeping relationships with our sponsors and generating community interest.
