Design Review #1 1/13/07

Drivetrain:

-speed? same
-why 6" wheels? lower, came in kit
-live lighter? no, pretty much the same
-why 2 motors per side? 5ft per second if we use only 1 motor
-weight budget??

Chassis:

-WEIGHT
-clearance to get up ramp??
-move wheels out by getting rid of front bar
-beaching? not likely
-bumpers

Arm:

-where can you pick up from? from ground
-what if other teams push us??
-use PVC tube instead of paddles so you can pick up leaning ringers
-add hook to take off spoilers
-close more to pick up tube
-hard to put on top spider leg (tilt of grabber)
-pull back middle section so it doesn't get in the way
-END OF ARM NEEDS TO BE LIGHT!
-getting to specific heights?
-extending out too far (72")
-why is the arm mounted to the back of robot??
-lower arm needs little movement
-what motors? motor for first stage, pneumatics for second, motor and sting for claw
-worm gear??
-otherwise, feedback on angle
-possibly vibrating arm!?

Elevator:

-can take off spoilers
-speed of lifting? 3-5 seconds
-angle tray
-back driving elevator
-raise each stage individually
-WEIGHT!!

Claw:

-how do you attach to lifter and which lifter??
-hard to pick up with (aiming)
-add a wrist??

ELECTRICAL

Drive:

buffer zone

Gyro:

-weight=0
-best use?? robot positioning or arm
-number? as many as you want (max is 3 interrupts??)
-axis? 2 axes plus gravity
-accuracy? 10th of a degree, drifting problems

Camera:

-angle of tilt
-lots of code
-can't see light when at rack
-used to score on far side of rack
Chassis

V-Grabber

C-Grabber

claw

Design analysis:

Arm:

-strength
-control
-more swinging
-more coding
+flexible
-can be pinned

Elevator:

-WEIGHT (use different material? use 2 posts instead of 4?)
-can't work with all grabbers
+encoder (go to specific heights)

Claw:

+good control of ringer
-hard to pick up angled pieces (90 degree hinge?)
-need to go higher
-can't work with elevator

C-grabber

(by elevator group) -ringer may change orientation if it slips
make better grip
+can grab different ringer orientations
+lighters

X-Grabber

(by arm group) +pushes ringer off
-can't remove spoiler (may not be important
-easier to position

Things to remember:

End of manipulator should be LIGHT!!
