Aim High is played by two three-team alliances on a 26 by 54 foot field. Three goal openings are located in each alliance station wall, through which alliance opponents can score. Above each center goal is an illuminated target that is used by the automated vision system to determine range and location of the goals. The platform in front of each alliance station wall is used at the end of the match by robots, who may climb onto it and score bonus points. The objective of the game is simple: shoot, push, or roll balls through any of the 3 goals at the far end of the field and at the end of the match, have your three robots on your ramp in front of your alliance station.
Each match is 2 minutes and 10 seconds long, and is divided into 4 periods. At the start of each match, robots can each hold up to 10 balls and are positioned near the middle of the field. The first period is "Autonomous" (the robots run without driver control) lasting 10 seconds. In the autonomous period, all robots can attempt to score points. The alliance with the highest score at the end of this period gets a 10 point bonus and are placed on "defense" for the next period. During the second and third period, one alliance is on offense and can score points, while the other alliance is on defense and cannot score points. The defensive alliance must also have a "backbot" which must remain on its offensive side of the field and not interfere with the offensive alliance. During the fourth and final period, all teams may score goals. At the end of the match, alliances also earn points for climbing onto their home platform.
