Robotics Dictionary

After spending 6 weeks together, the MVRT team members have begun speaking a language of their own. Here are some common words used by our members.

Akshades
Akshades
noun
Sun glasses or safety glasses worn on the back of one's head (named after 2003-2004 President, Akshay Dodeja, who used to always wear his sunglasses on the back of his head)
   Example: Akshay, where are your Akshades?

BJS
noun
1 : Bad Joke Syndrome
2 : A highly contagious disease that causes the infected to tell Pavan Jokes
   Example:
     A: I'm tired.
     B: Hello Tired! ... Oh no! I just told a Pavan Joke. I'm catching BJS!


cereal killer
noun
A person who eats cereal
   Example: Would you like to be a cereal killer? (said while holding out a bag of cereal)

cheese hole
verb
1 : Holes drilled into robot parts to lighten the robot and make the 120 lb or 110 lb weight limit
2 : Lightening holes
   Example: Oh no! We are over weight by 1 pound! We need to cheese hole the entire arm.

dremel
noun
A high speed rotary tool, which can drill, grind, sharpen, cut, clean, polish, sand, carve or engrave depending on the bit used.

verb
To cut or trim something using the dremel tool.
   Example: Go dremel this screw to 1 inch in length

-dremelling


dumpster
noun
A storage container by the track that we used to store old robots, parts, the crate, carpet, and other supplies
   Example: Is the cart in the dumpster?

dumpster diving
verb
to search for materials in the storage container by the track
   Example: Let's go dumpster diving!

inventorize
verb
The act of modeling a part or assembly in Autodesk Inventor
   Example: I just inventorized the entire chassis.

minion
noun
1 : Rookie laborer
2 : A dedicated and favored worker
3 : A servile dependent, follower, or underling (from webster.com)
   Example: My minions are sorting out the tool boxes.

MVRT Time
noun
1:15 (am or pm)

   Example: Everyone must get to robotics before MVRT Time to get snacks.

MVRT Day
noun
January 15 (1/15) or November 5 (11/5)

Pavan
Pavan joke
noun
A bad joke or pun said with perfect timing
   Example: "Donut eat the game pieces" -Pavan Datta

1 : the act of searching for a specific part or tool.
2 : an act of robotics heroics
   Example: Let's go on a quest for rivets!

ziptie
verb
the act of attaching something with a ziptie
   Example: Just ziptie the radio on.
